What Can Grok Bot Do? Real Use Cases and Examples
What can Grok Bot do? Real examples from tax checks to music videos, what needs your approval, which plan you need, and how it differs from @grok.
Short answer: Grok Bot is an AI agent app. Each Bot works on its own persistent cloud computer with a browser, files, and a terminal, so it can research on the web, work through websites (with purchases kept behind your approval), read and draft email from its own address, and run scheduled routines while your laptop is closed. Users also report using it to make media, such as music videos.
Grok Bot is not @grok. Cursor's help pages say Grok, the chat app from xAI, and Grok Bot are two different apps. @grok is Grok's account on X. Grok Bot is a separate app you sign in to with your Cursor account, with its own computer and its own usage.
Product details checked against the official Grok Bot help pages and docs on Oct 14, 2026. The examples below are what users report in public X posts, quoted as written with a link to each post. We haven't tested them ourselves. New to Grok Bot? Start with our beginner's guide.
Quick answer
Per the official docs, a Bot can:
- Keep working without you. Closing your laptop doesn't stop a task on its cloud computer.
- Use your apps. Plugins connect Gmail, Google Calendar, Slack, Notion, and more. Otherwise it uses the browser.
- Handle email. It can claim one address at
mail.grokbot.comto receive, search, and draft mail. You approve every send. See our email guide. - Run routines on a schedule, or when something happens, such as a Slack message, an email, or a webhook call.
- Work with other Bots. Bots can message each other and hand off tasks.
- Reuse a workflow. You can save a process as a skill and rerun it.
Real examples from X
These are users' own reports, not tested claims. Each has a link to the post, a line on how to try it, and a related template from our Grok Bots directory where one fits.
1. Double-check a tax return
"Grok @Bot can help with your taxes" (@elonmusk, Oct 13, 2026)
The post quotes @jasonfreedman, who gave a Bot four years of tax files: "I just said, please double check my CPA's work. A few minutes later, it had found a lot of mistakes." He reports that his CPA then sent back an amended return.
How: attach your documents and ask for a review that cites a source for each finding. To gather the paperwork first, try our Tax Folder Bot, which collects this year's tax documents from your email into one folder and lists what's missing. It never files a return or gives tax advice.
2. Gather documents for a complex filing
"Grok @Bot can help with complex taxes" (@elonmusk, Oct 13, 2026)
The quoted post from @Texas_Twins_Dad: "Grok Bot found and organized the necessary documents itself (emails and bank accounts), figured out the requirements, filled out the forms, and saved everything from its own computer. I just reviewed and submitted."
How: sign in yourself when it hands you the computer, and keep the final submit for yourself. Tax Folder handles the gathering step and never files anything.
3. Research a purchase and track the delivery
"Lego sets that were researched and bought for me by @Grok @Bot have arrived and Bot automatically stopped checking the shipping status!" (@elonmusk, Oct 13, 2026)
How: ask for options with links, approve the purchase, then ask the Bot to watch the shipping status. It hands you the computer for payment and identity checks. For tracking only, see Office Ops Desk.
4. Fill a grocery cart, then stop
"The team handles the planning and cart, and I check out myself." (@Michael_Fenech_, Oct 13, 2026)
He describes a small team of Bots: one plans meals, one fills the grocery cart, and one walks him through cooking.
How: tell your shopping Bot to stop before checkout, then review the cart and pay yourself. If you only want the list, our Grocery List Bot turns your meals for the week into one list sorted by aisle and never orders or buys.
5. Make a music video
"Make music videos easily with Grok @Bot" (@elonmusk, Oct 13, 2026)
The quoted post from @anabology: "I made a Grok Bot that can use Suno, Midjourney, and Opus to make music videos."
How: sign in to each service yourself on the Bot's computer when it asks. For turning long recordings into short clips, see Clip Bot.
6. Explain a topic with a video
"Cool Grok @Bot use case" (@elonmusk, Oct 13, 2026)
The quoted post from @XFreeze: "Just made "Explainer Video Bot"... It will help you understand any topic visually by making a video."
How: give one Bot this job, then save what worked as a skill.
7. Talk to it from your phone
"Assign Grok @Bot to your phone button for instant access" (@elonmusk, Oct 13, 2026)
The quoted post from @liam_fallen: "→ Press the Action Button → Open Grok in voice mode → Give it tasks and deadlines → Grok delegates them to Bots."
How: the help pages don't document the phone-button setup. They do cover voice chat: open a Bot's chat, leave the message box empty, and choose Start voice chat. New to Bots? See our beginner's guide.
8. Summarize email and flag scams
"All Grok @Bots get their own email address and can help analyze and summarize your email box too" (@elonmusk, Oct 13, 2026)
"Grok @Bot detects scam emails!" (@elonmusk, Oct 13, 2026)
The second post quotes @DirtyTesLa: "I use my Scam Email Detector bot to help alert me to scam emails"
One correction to the first post: per the official help page, you get one email address per account, and all your Bots share it. See our Grok Bot email guide.
How: connect Gmail or claim the Bot's own address, then ask for a daily summary. Office Ops Desk writes digests but doesn't triage email.
What needs your approval
- Actions Auto-review flags. Auto-review checks an action before it runs and asks when it needs you. You can choose Allow once, Always allow, or Deny.
- Every email send. Nothing sends from the Bot's address until you press Send. That includes routines.
- Sensitive steps. The Bot may ask you to take over for a password or passkey, two-factor authentication, a CAPTCHA, or a payment or identity check.
- Commands on your own computer. Per-command approval is the default ("Ask every time").
The docs recommend keeping sending, purchasing, deleting, publishing, and production changes behind approval. Approvals from work that started without you, such as a routine, expire after about 10 minutes, so turn on notifications for those Bots.
Templates to copy
Adding a template creates your own copy of a ready-made Bot and accepts the third-party bot terms. A few from our Grok Bots directory:
- Researchy: research and fact-checking with live web search.
- Clip Bot: short captioned clips from long recordings. It never posts anywhere.
- Office Ops Desk: shipments, facilities, and birthday digests. It doesn't buy anything.
- SEO & AEO Desk: content ideas and briefs from your keywords. It never publishes.
- QA bot: a pass-or-fail check on your live deploy before you ship.
Limits and safety
- Usage is metered. Plans include weekly usage, and big tasks and frequent routines use more.
- Your Bots share one computer. Every Bot can use its files and sign-ins.
- Some sites push back. A site can block cloud computers or show a captcha. The Bot hands that step to you.
- Memory isn't a source. For decisions like taxes, ask the Bot to cite the actual documents, and check its work.
- No model picker. Grok Bot picks the model for each task.
FAQ
Is Grok Bot the same as @grok?
No. Cursor's help pages say Grok, the chat app from xAI, and Grok Bot are two different apps. Grok Bot signs in with your Cursor account, works on its own cloud computer, and has its own usage meter. A paywall or limit in the Grok app isn't about Grok Bot.
Can Grok Bot buy things?
It can work through shopping sites in its browser. Cursor's docs advise keeping purchases behind your approval, and the Bot hands you the computer for payment or identity checks. To be safe, tell it to stop before checkout, then review the cart and pay yourself.
Can Grok Bot do my taxes?
It can help. People report using it to review past returns and gather documents for a filing. The help pages don't describe any tax-specific features, so treat it as a careful assistant: ask for sources, review every change, and have a tax professional check anything you're unsure about.
Which plan do I need for Grok Bot?
Any paid individual Cursor plan (Pro, Pro+, or Ultra) or a self-serve Cursor Teams plan includes it. You can also link an individual SuperGrok, SuperGrok Plus, SuperGrok Heavy, or X Premium+ account. SuperGrok Lite isn't included. On Enterprise, ask your account team.
Can I tag Grok Bot on X?
Yes, where available. Per the official docs, you can tag @bot in a post or reply, and your main Bot picks up the post as a task while @bot confirms with a short public reply. It needs an X account connected to your Grok account and isn't available in every region yet.
