Cursor X Subscription Pricing: Plans, Prices, and Whether You Have to Switch

Cursor X Subscription pricing, checked Oct 14: five tiers from $0 to $200 a month, what's included, and whether you need to switch.

Updated Oct 14, 2026

No, current Cursor subscribers don't have to switch. Cursor says existing subscribers "can keep their plan or switch" (Cursor on X), and SpaceXSI's docs say existing Cursor, SuperGrok, and X Premium plans "continue unless you change or cancel them" (docs). The X Subscription puts Cursor, Grok, and X Premium on one plan with five tiers (Grok on X). New customers start on it, and the switch option is rolling out to existing subscribers.

Neither vendor publishes what "Base" usage means in requests or tokens, so the multipliers only compare tiers with each other.

What changes for Cursor users

  • One shared pool. Paid plans share one weekly usage pool across Cursor, Grok Build, and other Grok products, including Grok Bot. Heavy Grok chat use leaves less for coding.
  • More Grok coding usage. SpaceXSI says each plan includes "at least twice as much coding usage with our models as the comparable Cursor plan" (announcement). That's their claim, and we haven't tested it.
  • Third-party models cost extra. Claude, GPT, and other non-Grok models aren't part of included usage. They're billed at API list prices from the first request, paid from prepaid top-ups, on Premium and above. Plus doesn't offer them in Cursor at all (docs).
  • Switching is permanent. The docs say a switch "can't be undone." Old plans are cancelled with a prorated refund. If you pay for Cursor through the Apple App Store, you have to cancel it yourself in iOS Settings.

Who should consider switching (in our view)

  • Mostly Grok users: switching probably makes sense, especially if you also pay for SuperGrok or X Premium.
  • Mostly Claude or GPT users in Cursor: wait. The X Subscription doesn't include those models, so compare a week of API-rate costs before you switch.
  • Beginners trying Cursor: Plus at $8 is a cheap test, but it's Grok-only. Premium is the first tier with cloud agents and code review.

Free ($0) includes a limited agent allowance. Plus ($8/month) is the cheapest paid tier, but it only covers Grok models.

Can I switch back?

No. SpaceXSI's docs say the switch is permanent.
